Learn the basics about the Spanish alphabet. We’ll be releasing other lessons about phonetics in the future to improve your comprehension of this matter.

A few things to note about the Spanish alphabet. The Spanish alphabet is also called “abecedario”, consists of 27 letters, 22 consonants and 5 vowels. The Spanish language is written using the Spanish alphabet, which is the latin script with one additional letter: eñe “ñ”. If you listen carefully to the audio, you will recognise two extra sounds; two intruders, “che” y “ll”. These two letters were part of the alphabet long time ago. They are called digraphs and we do have 3 more, “rr” (“doble erre”), “gu” (“gu+i //gu+e”) and “qu” (“qu+a // qu+e”). We will study them later on. For now, just pay attention to the sounds.

Try now to spell your name in Spanish, is it difficult?
