TANDEM Cultural Program: Tapas in Plaza Mayor
July 22, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm CEST
What is the typical fast food of Madrid? Find it out in the Plaza Mayor.
The “Plaza Mayor” (Main Square) is a space present in almost all cities in Spain, and is part of the country’s traditions. In the past it functioned as a center of social and political life of the cities, as well as element of urban organization, where converged the major streets and roads. Currently, the main squares in Spain are important tourist and leisure, especially with restaurants and bars.
The same applies to the Plaza Mayor of Madrid, which for its central location, close to the Puerta del Sol, is one of the essential attractions of the Spanish capital. Since it was built in the sixteenth century, it has witnessed great events of Spanish history, as well as the constant routine of the locals who pass by.
This week in the TANDEM Cultural Program, we’ll discover places around the Plaza Mayor through one of the most typical traditions of the country: tapas.
