TANDEM Cultural Program: Guided Visit to El Escorial

El Escorial is one of the most beautiful places of “la sierra de Madrid”. In this excursion we are going to visit the monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is an architectural complex located in a city with the same name, which also includes a royal palace, a basilica, a cemetery and a library. It was built in the sixteenth century by order of King Philip II, and has served as a residence of the royal family for several times. The basilica, guarded by the monks of the Order of St. Augustine, serves as a burial for many kings of Spain.

It is a very interesting place for sightseeing because in addition to its historical and artistic importance, it is in a region with great natural wealth, near the park of the Sierra de Guadarrama, in the north of Madrid.

In this half-day excursion to El Escorial, we can enjoy a day with nature, reliving for a few hours the splendor of Spain in the sixteenth century, through one of the most important architectural complexes in the country.
