Frinje madrid 2016

If you like the performing arts, you may be glad to know that the Teatro Español of Madrid is organizing the fifth annual performing arts festival Frinje Madrid 2016, that will be held from 1 to 17 July at the Matadero Madrid, which have been selected 23 companies 800 proposals from more than 20 countries.

What is Frinje Madrid 2016?

For the fifth consecutive year, this performing arts festival bets 100% by contemporary creation, as well as the international exchange and theory and practice stage laboratories, especially designed for theater lovers. However, many of these laboratories have been created in order to bring the theater to those groups outside the scene. So that it can endorse the search for new approaches.

The objectives of Frinje Madrid 2016 are very clear: to recover spaces for expressions, receive proposals, awake creators and companies with the ability to analyze the contemporary reality.

The Frinje Madrid 16 intends to be a vehicle for active participation in which one can be filled up with the reality that exists today.

It encourages participants to confront the political and social reality around them, bringing some light into those shadows of a period that has been marked by the speed with which changes have occurred. So, it has created an eclectic program, which can be merged with various artistic disciplines related to the staging such as: dance, theater, circus, performance, among others.

Frinje Madrid 2016 will be focusing on those emerging talents both from the local and national art scene. And it will also look at international art scenes. For the selection of the shows, a committee of experts will be working under a budget of three thousand euros. This committee comprises:

  • Marion Betriu, who holds the position of artistic coordinator.
  • Marcia Diaz as artistic director and producer.
  • Tiago Rodriguez, creator and director of the National Theatre D. Maria II in Lisbon.
  • José Manuel Mora, who is a playwright and the artistic coordinator of Frinje Madrid.
  • José Antonio Sánchez, researcher, professor and author of numerous critical texts on performing arts.

This festival is working so far as a basis on which they will forge new (and uncertain) artistic proposals that challenge both political and social reality. Of all the proposals that arise then, three will be supported and benefited from an additional financial aid of six thousand euros.

The criteria under which the valuation of each project has mainly been established on the analysis capacity of the political and social reality, innovation and personal language.

Both the music and the cocktails will be part of this elaborate program, that is divided into 4 main areas: present, past, future and new audiences.

The specific location where the festival is taking place is the Matadero Madrid, in the district of Arganzuela, Legazpi neighborhood, next to the Manzanares River in the city of Madrid.
