TANDEM Cultural Program: Excursion to Alcala de Henares

Next Friday 31st we’re going to visit the birth place of Miguel de Cervantes, Alcala de Henares, a beautiful small city near Madrid.

The town of Alcala de Henares, birth place of Miguel de Cervantes in 1547, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on December 2, 1998. This UNESCO recognition not only refers to the historical and artistic heritage that treasures the city but also to the Alcala’s transcendent contribution to the world culture. UNESCO declared at the summit in Kyoto “University and Historic site of Alcalá de Henares” deserved to be included in the World Heritage list, justifying the registration based on the compliance with their criteria.
