Spanish and wine: the perfect pairing

In addition to flamenco, tortilla de patatas and paella, Spain is also known throughout the world for the great variety and quality of its wines. A drink consumed from the north to the south of the country and usually accompanied by a good chat, something that makes wine the perfect pairing of Spanish.

If you also have the opportunity to visit Madrid you will discover that it is the perfect city to learn Spanish and enter into the world of wine and its cultivation and production, both for the wide variety of wines with the designation of origin “Wines of Madrid” and for their quality (five of them recognized in the International Contest Bacchus 2019).

A good example of the diversity of Madrid wines is that the list of areas with the D.O. Wines of Madrid does not stop growing. In addition to the towns of Arganda del Rey, Navalcarnero and San Martín de Valdeiglesias, a fourth town has just been added, El Molar, the only one in the north of the region.

There are now 70 towns in Madrid with their own designation of origin, such as Colmenar Viejo, El Molar, El Vellón, Patones de Arriba, Pedrezuela, San Agustín de Guadalix, Talamanca del Jarama, Torrelaguna, Torremocha del Jarama, Valdetorres de Jarama and Venturada, the latest to join the map of Madrid wines.

Spanish and Passion for wine, much more than wine tourism

In addition to being able to visit around twenty wineries and vineyards in Madrid where you’ll verify the good fame of the regions’wines and take part in other wine tourism activities, at TANDEM Madrid we offer you an alternative of complete immersion in Spanish and enology.

This is the Spanish Course and a Passion for Wine, a program for international students over the age of 18 where in addition to morning Spanish lessons you can participate in cultural and leisure activities related to wine and its influence on Spanish culture.

It doesn’t matter what level of Spanish you have or if you are already an expert in Spanish wines, this course will provide you with the sufficient level of Spanish so that in just one week (the minimum time in which you can enrol) you will be able to communicate in Spanish both with your classmates and with Madrid’s peoples and order your favourite wine from the waiter thanks to what you have learnt in your Spanish and Passion for Wine classes.

The main goal is that during your stay in Madrid you also get in touch with the local culture. That is why in addition to the typical wine tastings and visits to Madrid’s wineries and the Wine Museum, you will also have the opportunity to get to know one of the most important art galleries in the world, Museo del Prado, with guided tours in which you will learn about art and wine through its paintings, to name just a few examples of the activities frequently carried out.
